Puttur, Mar 21: "A few organizations are trying to solicit assistance from elements having bases across the country's borders, with the specific purpose of giving rise to internal terrorism in the twin-districts and also the Uttara Kannada district. A series of disturbances are taking place, right from Karwar to Sullia. The government is watching the developments and will take suitable steps soon," said Coastal Development Authority chairman and ex-minister B Nagaraj Shetty.
He said that vested interests are concerned over the presence of strong pro-BJP wave in Karwar, Udupi-Chikmagalur and Mangalore constituencies. These organizations want to create anarchy and disturb peace. The government needs to keep a tab on organizations like Karnataka Forum for Dignity, he felt.
Speaking to reporters after visiting various places from where disturbances were reported on Friday March 20, Shetty urged the leaders of different communities to ensure that anti-social elements do not get to make use of religious centres for serving their own ulterior purposes. He cited incidents that took place at Kaup and Puttur, for this phenomenon. "I have met the state home minister, apprised him of the situation in the three districts and asked him to take all measures to ensure that free and fair poll is allowed to be held here," he explained.
Municipal president Rajesh Bannur and other leaders of the BJP were present.
