Udupi, Mar 20: "It has been felt necessary to lay bare before the general public, the truth about the incidents that occurred as an aftermath of the Hindu Samajotsav. For this purpose, a fact-finding committee has been formed for the purpose," said Mohammed Yaseen Malpe, Udupi District Muslim Union president, addressing a press conference held here on Thursday March 19.
The Samajotsav was held as part of preparation for the ensuing election. It was pre-planned by the Sangh Parivar outfits with the specific aim of creating vote bank in the name of religion, he alleged.
During the Kaup disturbances, the policemen have acted arbitrarily, by discriminating against a particular community. The authority concerned should take strict action against them in this connection, he demanded.
Several shops belonging to Muslims were attacked at Malpe and Kaup, and the miscreants did not even spare the Madikal mosque. The Muslim community of the district is losing the trust on the administration as a result, he said.
BJP president Sadanand Gowda has been issuing childish statements relating to the incident. He is the one who hatched the conspiracy to reap benefits in the election. The union strongly condemns the incident and expresses sympathy with the superintendent of police who was injured during the disturbances, he said.
Kamaruddin Saheb, vice-president of the Union, Ummer Farooq, president, taluk unit, Kasim Barkur, general secretary, Anwar Ali Kaup and M P Moidinabba were present at the press conference.
