Mangalore, Mar 15: Giant waves on the beaches at Bekal Fort and Maravanthe brought back memories of the treacherous tsunami that hit the Indian coast a few years ago, in the minds of fishermen on Friday March 13.
Sources said that the fishermen were apprehensive about venturing out to sea for fishing following the occurrence of massive waves on Friday. More than a half kilometre of the beach came under the sea water.
Five makeshift boat sheds, fishing nets, and a small bridge in Pallikere were washed away by the giant waves. No causalities have been reported.
Concerned officials concerned and the Tahsildar visited the spot.
