Mangalore, Mar 14: Vishwa Hindu Parishat divisional convener M B Puranik informed that the workers have been conducting door-to-door visits to organize Hindu Samajotsav in a fitting way because of the ban on external publicity, which is in force due to the election code of conduct that has come into force in connection with the ensuing Lok Sabha election. He clarified that the date for the Samajotsav was decided two months back, before the election was announced, at the 'Dharma Raksha Vedike' function held in Mumbai.
BJP district legal unit convener K Sudhakar in the meantime, said in a press conference held on Friday March 13 that it has been decided to question the decision to remove banners, buntings and welcome arches put up in connection with the Samajotsav, in the guise of election code of conduct.
When preparations were almost complete for holding the programme, state election officer B V Kulkarni sent an e-mail message in haste to the district administration, as per the advice contained in which, the above action was taken. He accused the national-level Congress leaders of having influenced this decision.
District unit assistant convener Ramakrishna Rai, member Sumana Sharan and city convener Shambhu Sharma were present at the press conference.
