Mangaluru, Apr 9: Karnataka State Fire & Emergency Services, along with NDRF conducted a mock exercise on urban flooding and building collapse at Forum Fiza Mall on Monday, April 8 to educate the people about safety protocols to be followed during emergency.
Chief fire officer T N Shivashankar said, "We are conducting a mock exercise on disaster management. Last year, there was heavy flood in Mangaluru. A building collapsed at Dharwad recently. Keeping all that in mind, mock exercise is being conducted to undertake rescue operation in emergency situation.
"Karnataka state fire service, police personnel, NDRF, and home guards have all joined together for the mock exercise. Coordination is very important of all these departments, said T N Shivshankar.
Team commandant Subhish K S said, "Mock exercise is being conducted for urban flooding and building collapse.”
Teams of NDRF, fire service, home guard and police gathered for the rescue operation of public in urban flooding.
The control room at the mall received an emergency call at 11:45 am of flooding in the basement of the mall. As soon as the siren blared, the customers, tenant staff and others were safely escorted out from the emergency exit and assembled at safe assembly zone of the mall.
Flooding took place at the basement of the mall and rescue operation was taken place, carrying the people from the basement. It was demonstrated how in emergency one has to undertake rescue operations with the coordination of all the departments.
