Mysuru, Apr 7: Although JD(S) legislator representing Chamundeshwari constituency here, and minister, G T Deve Gowda, who had defeated former chief minister, Siddaramaiah, in the recent assembly election, tried his best to convince JD(S) workers and leaders from his constituency to sink differences and wholeheartedly support the candidature of Congress candidate, Vijayshankar, from Mysuru - Kodagu constituency, he failed in his objective.
G T Deve Gowda had for the first time after the last election, met Siddaramaiah at the instance of leaders from both the parties, and agreed to canvass for the consensus candidate's victory. Accordingly, Deve Gowda held a meeting of taluk panchayat, zilla panchayat, gram panchayat and grass root level workers of his party from Chamundeshwari constituency at a private hotel here on Saturday morning. However, nothing other than confusion and din was achieved at the end.
G T Deve Gowda, under pressure from party supremo, H D Deve Gowda, had agreed to work with Siddaramaiah in order to defeat BJP. However, at the meeting held by G T Deve Gowda, most of the JD(S) leaders and workers strongly refused to support the Congress candidate. The meeting chaired by G T Deve Gowda was attended by party state president, Adagur H Vishwanath, tourism minister, S R Mahesh, MLC, Marithibbe Gowda and some others.
Before the meeting began, the leaders met and discussed about strategies to convince their party workers. After the meeting began at 11.25 am, Vishwanath initially addressed the meeting and asked the people to work for the victory of Vijayshankar, who have been fielded as coalition candidate. Mahesh and Marithibbe Gowda also spoke at the meeting. However, the people raised slogans, and came up with objections. Even as Mahesh and Marithibbe Gowda spoke, chaos ensued at the meeting hall. Many workers were heard saying that several cases were registered against them during the previous assembly election just because they had supported G T Deve Gowda.
