Belagavi, Apr 5: Four members of a family who were seated in a bullock cart and were proceeding to their field were electrocuted after the cart moved over a fallen live electric cable. Both the bullocks which were pulling the cart too died in the incident. The incident happened in K Timmapur village of Ramadurga taluk in the district on Thursday April 4.

Two girls who were travelling by the same cart however, saved their lives by jumping out of the cart from behind.

The deceased have been identified as farmer, Revappa Kallolli (35), his wife, Ratnavva Revappa Kallolli (30), son, Sachin Revappa Kallolli (8), and Revappa's nephew, Krishna Shivappa Kallolli (10).

The girls who jumped to safety were Laxmi, daughter of Revappa, and Priyanka, daughter of Revappa's elder brother. The family was moving towards their field to wash their clothes before dawn as there was annual festival in the village on Thursday. An electric cable passing over the field had fallen to the ground two days back, it is said, and reportedly people had complained to Hubli Electricity Supply Company Ltd (Hescom).

After the cable came in contact with the hooves of the bullocks, people were electrocuted. The two girls who jumped out ran to their house and informed elders, even as other family members were struggling for life. By the time help came, all the four had died.

Hescom sources said that recommendation has been sent to suspend Salahalli Hescom in-charge branch manager, Eranna R Naikar, and power-man, Basavaraj Katakola.
