Mangalore, Mar 10Sri Lakshmivarateertha Sripada Swamiji of Shiroor Mutt termed the pub attack “a lesson taught by the youth to the youth”. He said that many were happy with this incident, but did not express their joy.
The Swamiji was delivering a speech at ‘Mahila Jagrathi Sammelana’, organized by the Kannada Jagratha Vedike at Town Hall here on Monday March 9. “Valentine’s Day celebration is an evil culture. Our young generation has been distracted from Indian culture. Young women have been killed by youth belonging to other religions”, he claimed.
He questioned as to why the women’s commission does not send representatives when young women are killed in the district. He said that young people lacked proper guidance and there is a need for a forum to protect culture. The Swamiji lamented that foreign culture had spoiled the peaceful environment in the country.
T A Narayana Gowda, president, Karnataka Rakshana Vedike, said that it is the bounden duty of every citizen to nip communal forces in the bud. He said that dividing people in the name of religion is not a good sign for a developing nation.
“An alleviation of poverty should be our aim. KRV has started a garment industry to provide jobs to the people. Movements should not be confined to shouting slogans, but must initiate welfare programmes”, he added.
“The government developmental programmes should reach the layman. KRV will undertake a movement in this regard”, added Narayana.
District in-charge minister J Krishna Palemar, Mamatha Gatti, Malini Hebbar, Dr Kripa Amar Alva, Jayanthi S Bangera, and G A Bava, were present.
