Udupi, Apr 2: “Influencing others to vote of NOTA is illegal. Legal action will be taken against the party or individual who campaigns for NOTA,” warned DC Hephsiba Rani Korlapati.
Speaking to reporters, she said that giving information about NOTA is not wrong. “But campaigns for it in social networks are not permitted. NOTA is only an option and is a personal right of voters. NOTA cannot be used for politics. Cases will be registered against those who campaign for NOTA,” she said.
BJP candidate MP Shobha Karandlaje is contesting as BJP candidate in Udupi-Chikkamagaluru constituency. BJP supporters who oppose her candidature are campaigning to vote for NOTA against her name.
There is opposition in Congress for Pramod Madhwaraj contesting under JD(S) symbol. Therefore some Congress leaders are campaigning to vote for NOTA. The deputy commissioner warned in view of discussions about NOTA in social media.
