Mangaluru, Apr 1: Jaison Sequeira’s third music concert was critically acclaimed by music lovers gathered around a fish pond at Kalangann on Sunday. ‘Tisro Sur Unplugged’ was styled in the form of a ‘home concert’, a first-of-its-kind in Konkani. This intimate musical experience was praised by the audience for its compositions, music and expression.
Richard Machado, parent of one the musicians expressed his unique experience and need of such genuine musical expression in Konkani. He also applauded the concept of serving music with songs without distractions.
Glany Fernandes, one of the audience told he loved ‘Bhaava Geete’ genre which lacked in Konkani and thanked Tisro Sur Unplugged for emphasizing this genre in the concert.
Rashmi Fernandes, daughter of Bab Eric Ozario, shared that young Konkanis have a role model in Jaison Sequeira to strengthen the future of music in Konkani.
Many others gathered at the venue were overwhelmed by the quality of compositions and its presentation. Eric Ozario hosted the event with apt and insightful introduction to each song. A total of 11 songs were presented by Jaison Sequeira and his team of young performers.
Sachin Sequeira displayed his mastery over drums and percussion; while Russel Rodrigues’ bass riffs were noticed and applauded by the crowd. Alron Rodrigues accompanied Jaison on the unplugged version of ‘Gadir Ek Bob’ which turned out to be one of the favourites in the evening. Velita Lobo, winner of ‘Mhozo Tallo Gaitholo’ presented ‘Deshanthli Chali’ song depicting the harsh reality of women issues in India and around the globe. Reuben Machado, a rare multi-instrumentalist from Mangaluru played flute and harmonica for listeners delight throughout the show. Derick D’Souza handled acoustic guitar and Donald Preetam’s violin pieces enriched the unplugged mood of ‘Tisro Sur’. Blue Angels Choir lead by Denzil Pereira backed the team with vocal harmonisation.
All the songs presented during the concert were conceptualized by Jaison with an objective of emphasizing the need to create an undisturbed emotional bonding from the start to the end. He himself sang 9 songs ranging from topics related to the beauty of Mangalore, various facets of love, gratitude towards parents, women issues and songs strengthening hope and belief. A devotional song ‘Teen Khillyancher’ was presented as a reflection on the meaning of Lent.
‘Tisro Sur Unplugged’ was entirely crowd funded. Jaison said, “Give me a stage, and I will give you hard work.” He continued, “Mandd Sobhann has provided unconditional support in my musical journey and I request everyone to show a similar approach towards artists as there are many who deserve much more than they get.” A small gathering of about 200 music enthusiasts had an evening to cherish for a long time.
