Udupi, Apr 1: A yakshagana programme prepared by district SVEEP committee for voter’s awareness was set in motion by zilla panchayat chief project officer Srinivas Rao after beating the drum in Malpe beach on Sunday.
The Yakshagana performance is based on the story of the king of Samradhipura who did not have children and appointed his successor by democratic process of voting. The play has the message that everybody should vote for the candidate of their choice without getting lured.
The play is performed by Kota Kalapeeta group. The play will be held by district SVEEP committee to create awareness in places where very few voters came for voting in last elections.
District SVEEP committee president and district panchayat chief executive officer Sindhu B Roopesh, municipal council’s Anand Kallolikar, Udupi taluk panchayat chief executive officer Raju, district social welfare officer Bhujabali, women’s and children’s development department assistant director Gracy Gonsalves, DHO Dr Om Prakash Kattemani and Byndoor block education officer Ashok Kamath were present.
Taluk panchayat assistant director Harikrishna Shivattaya welcomed and compered the programme.
