Mangalore, Mar 4: A workshop on generation of unconventional power was held at NIT-K Suratkal on Tuesday March 3.

The event was organized by the department of electricals and electronics of the college.

Speaking after inaugurating the workshop, Shivayogi Kalasada, director, administrative department, Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Limited Bangalore, said that the KPTCL is aiming at transforming the state into power-surplus state by augmenting power generation, by the year 2013.

There will be problem of power cuts in the coming 10 to 15 years, if the nuclear deal of the central government is executed without any interference. The government must further lay emphasis on producing power through wind energy, he said.

Electricity is being  supplied to over 1,57,86,371 customers in the state, but by  the year 2012, there will be an increased demand of 10,939 mega watts of energy. The government is working hard to avoid power thefts and use power more efficiently. Educational institutions must conduct research on these topics, Kalidasa said.
