Puttur, Mar 30: Uppinangady police have succeeded in arresting a person facing over 40 cases of cheating and other crimes in cases registered in different police stations in the state from Bengaluru. He was absconding and had evaded presence in courts in spite of arrest warrants issued against him.
The arrested man has been identified as K N Nage Gowda (50) from Manya Garden, Periyadka in Uppinangady village. Nine arrest warrants had been issued against him in cases registered in Uppingady, Sullia, Bellare, Subrahmanya, Yallapur, and Gadag police stations. He faces a number of civil land criminal cases. A case of rape also stands registered against him in Channarayapatna police station, it is gathered.
Nage Gowda is a native of Dandiganahalli revenue division in Yeleyoor village, Channarayanatna taluk, Hassan district. He bought land at Periyadka about 15 years back and shifted his residence with wife and children. He obtained permission from the government to set up home for the aged at Periyadka in 2013 and set up 'Manya Multipurpose Develpment Service Trust Ltd' at Periyadka. In the name of the trust, he had collected huge amounts in the name of membership fee, by making people believe that they would get loans at cheap rate of interest. Those who sought their membership money back were issued cheques which bounced on presentation. He is said to be having good convincing skills.
Nage Gowda also collected money in the name of real estate dealing, providing government employment etc and got people to invest in his trust by promising high returns. Several who were cheated by him registered civil cases. Even after warrant and summons were issued under Negotiable Instruments Act, he had evaded arrest.
Uppingnaday ststion house officer, probationary assistant superintendent of police, Pradeep Gunti, sub-inspector, Nandakumar, probationary sub-inspector, Pavan Nayak and other staff were involved with this operation.
