Mangaluru, Mar 29: Dakshina Kannada district deputy commissioner, Sasikanth Senthil, said that clear instructions have been issued to officials at all levels to handle drinking water issues that might crop during the summer months in the city corporations, local administrations, and gram panchayat limits. He said that the officials have to provide water through tankers or digging of bore wells in case of need.
In reply to questions by the media persons in the city, the deputy commissioner said that he does not foresee any drinking water shortage in the city till the end of April. "If it rains in the meanwhile, problems might not arise. If there are no rains, we may have to ration water for some days during May. We are closely monitoring levels of water at Thumbay and AMR dams. Already instructions have been issued to curtain water for industrial purposes. Mescom has been asked to cut power connections to agricultural pump sets in Netravati catchment areas" he explained.
He said that tanker water is now being provided within the limits of Mulky, Ullal, and Kotekar, where water shortage has been encountered.
