Udupi, Mar 3: Reliable sources informed that a gang of naxals visited a house in a village near Hebri, a naxal-infested region, on Monday March 2. The gang members collected some food grains and other items from the house, prepared food nearby, consumed it and went away, the villagers said.
The anti-naxal force is learnt to have intensified its combing operations in and around the village, after it came to know of the incident. Even though the policemen have declined to confirm the above incident, villagers vouched for the authenticity of the information. The people are worried about the increased naxal activities, in the face of the government's claim that they have come down drastically.
In the recent past, the naxals had warned against undertaking Koodlu Hydel Power Project. After this, survey work of the project had been suspended. The people feel that the naxals move about in the region to ensure that the survey work is not undertaken again. The policemen are surprised at the fact that the naxals have increased their visits to villages with impunity, in the face of their intensified combing operations.
