Beltangady, Mar 3: Jayanand Naik (32), a resident of Kallapu in Navara village, three kms away from Aladangady near here, was hacked to death by his wife Sundari (27) on the night of Sunday March 1. It is learnt, that Sundari was fed up with her nagging husband, who was a habitual drunkard.
The couple had married three years ago. As the family of Naik was opposed to the relationship, he had built a separate house for himself near the place of his in-laws. It is learnt that Jayanand Naik used to get drunk everyday and meted out physical and mental harassment to his wife. On Sunday night, a fight broke out between the two. When she was unable to bear the harassment of her husband, she ran away to her parents’ house. As Naik followed her even there, she lost patience, grew angry, took out a sickle found there and launched an assault on her husband indiscriminately, it is said.
The body of Naik bore the marks of having been hit with a sharp weapon at several places. Her brother, who lives in the house, was away for husking of arecanut in a nearby house, but her parents and sister were at home.
Sundari has an eight-month-old baby boy. Assistant superintendent of police Chandragupta, Beltangady circle inspector Y Gangireddy, Venur station house officer Manju etc., visited the spot. Sundari has been arrested by the policemen.
