Mangalore: Grand Finale of 'Festival of the Elderly' at Govt Jr College

Mangalore, Mar 2: The grand finale of the ‘Festival of the Elderly’ was held on Saturday February 28 at the government training junior college. The programme began with a prayer song sung by the Vishwas Trust staff. Chief guest Alveera Philomena, principal of the government junior college, Celine Aranha, trustee, Dr Deric Lobo, trustee, Dr Audrey Pinto, chairperson of Vishwas Trust and Santosh Kumar Kadri, trustee were at the dais.
Merlin Menezes, social worker, introduced the dignitaries on the dais and welcomed the gathering. She spoke on the significance of the Festival Month of the Elderly. Alveera Philomena awarded the certificates to the winners of the competitions that were held during the festival month for the Elderly and addressed the senior citizens and expressed her concern on the plight of the senior citizens in the current scenario. She also expressed gratitude to Vishwas Trust for its efforts in reaching out to our elders. Dr Derek Lobo spoke to the senior citizens and briefly spoke on old-age-related issues.
Cultural programme was organized by Vishwas Trust staff and MSW students, followed by spot games that were conducted by MSW students, which added colour to the event.
Felcy Pinto, secretary of Vishwas Trust, proposed vote of thanks. The programme was well attended by the senior citizens and well-wishers of Vishwas Trust.
