Bengaluru, Mar 27: The recently introduced ‘C Vigil’ app has helped citizens to unearth violations relating to model code of conduct and lodge complaints.
Violations of handing over secret gift coupons, handing over cash to voters by supporters of candidates, distribution of liquor and several such complaints are being received by election officials.
People have submitted more than 850 complaints with pictures to the election commission within 25 days of introducing the app. Maximum complaints of 139 complaints are received from Hassan district though only eleven out of them are proved. Their number is likely to increase as elections approach.
Raichur and Bengaluru city are in second and third position in complaints with 70 and 65 complaints. Though the numbers of complaints are more, only 159 of the total number are proved.
As many as 8,386 staff from the election commission are assigned to scrutinise election related violations and complaints. The staff is working in three shifts. Each team has three people in it. The work performance could not be monitored in the past. The app helps the officials to see how the work progresses now. Therefore, the staff responds quickly avoiding confusion.
