Mangalore, Mar 2: Prof M Ramachandra was honoured with the ‘Prof SV Parameshwar Memorial Award’ at a workshop held at Canara College auditorium on Saturday February 28.
The event was organized by the Prof SVP Memorial Committee.
Erya Lakshminarayana Bhat, president of the committee, honoured Prof Ramachandra with the award and a cash prize of Rs 10,000.
Speaking after receiving the award, Prof Ramachandra, retired lecturer, Karkala, said that an amount of Rs 2, 500 will be given back to the committee and Rs 2, 500 will be donated to the Govinda Pai Research Centre, Udupi, while the remaining Rs 5,000 will be used for the activities of the Karkala Sahitya Sangh.
“A sincere effort was made to share memories and the experience of reading and understanding literature for the common people and it has succeeded in giving immense pleasure and satisfaction in life”, he said.
Presiding over the function, Bhat said that Prof Ramachandra had established the Sahitya Sangh at Bhuvanendra College, Karkala, and devoted about 35 years to the field of literature.
Dr B V Mahidas, lecturer, Mangalore University College, delivered the memorial speech, while Nagaraj Javali, retired principal, Canara College, delivered the felicitation speech.
Chandrakala Nandavar, secretary, Prof S V P Memorial Committee, welcomed the gathering.
Narasimhamurty, treasurer, committee, Dr Prabhakar Joshi, Satyanarayan Mallipatna, and Prof N D Shetty, were present on the occasion.
