Mangalore, Mar 2: Dakshina Kannada district in-charge minister Krishna J Palemar has assured the people that they can opt to payment of property tax at old rates, till a committee of experts appointed to consider ammendments in the existing system submits its report. He was speaking after laying foundation stone for the maintenance and conservation works costing Rs 29.90 lac being made to the drain near Kannur Lord Vaidyanat temple.
"Some people are spreading false rumours. We will not allow the Corporation to levy taxes that are found unjust and unduly heavy. You can pay property tax at old rates till the committee comes out with recommendations," he said.
MLA N Yogish Bhat who presided over the progrmme, said that the Corporation and the government are taking up works with a view to achieve balanced development of all the constituencies and wards.
Mayor M Shankar Bhat, deputy mayor Rajani Dugganna, district BJP president Monappa Bhandary, Corporation standing committee chairman Vijaykumar Shetty, minor irrigation department executive engineer N T Rajgopal and Vaidyanat temple managing trustee Gopal Poojary were present.
MLA Bhat also laid foundation stones to some of the works and inaugurated some others in the city on Sunday.
