Udupi, Feb 28: Manipal Life Science Centre functioning under Manipal University, will be providing a six-day training programme to selected students from Shimoga, Udupi and Dakshina Kannada districts, as part of its initiatives to kindle an interest in them to study basic science. Senior researcher and scientist of the Centre Dr Gopinath noted, that almost all the brilliant students now-a-days opt to undergo either medical or engineering courses and that the Centre wants them to identify the potential basic science offers to them.
aA total of 23 students, who have scored highest marks in the ninth standard examinations, have been selected for the training programme. This is the fourth running year of such a programme. Personnel of Agastya Foundation Bangalore will be showing the students practicals in the Foundation’s mobile van in physics, chemistry and biology. The students will also be taken to Anatomy Museum, MIT etc., to give them a first person account of these fields.
The Centre will be organizing Science Day at Hotel Valley View auditorium at 3 pm on Saturday February 28. Around 400 students from these three districts will be taken through various institutions of higher scientific education to introduce to them various aspects of science, he said.
