Bengaluru, Mar 19: In the background of the continuously changing political scenario of politics of Karnataka state, there is a likelihood that JD (S) supremo Deve Gowda may contest from the Lok Sabha constituency of Hassan itself.
It is learnt that, if Deve Gowda will contest from Hassan, Prajwal Revanna will contest either from Tumakuru or Bengaluru North. It is certain that M Manju, former minister of Congress, who has joined BJP now, will be contesting from Hassan. So both Revanna and Kumaraswamy have opined that it is suitable for Deve Gowda to compete against Manju than Prajwal. Due to this development, JD (S) is reworking on its options.
In the midst of all this, the name of retired justice Gopal Gowda is proposed for the constituency of Bengaluru North. If Deve Gowda contests from Hassan and Prajwal Revanna from Tumakuru, then Gopal Gowda will be contesting from Bengaluru North. It is learnt that Deve Gowda has had first round talks with justice Gopal Gowda in this regard.
Leaders of JD (S) from the constituencies of Hassan, Tumakuru, Bengaluru North and Mysuru met Deve Gowda in his residence at Padmanabhanagar in the city on Monday, March 18 and discussed the current situation. The leaders of Tumakuru and Bengaluru North pressurized Deve Gowda to contest from their respective constituencies. Though Deve Gowda listened to the opinions of the leaders, he did not take any decision.
The discussion that was to take place on Monday, March 18 between leaders of JD (S) and Congress could not take place as AICC president Rahul Gandhi had to participate in the Parivartana Yatre at Kalaburagi and interaction with young entrepreneurs in the city. All the state Congress leaders accompanied Rahul Gandhi. This meeting is postponed now.
The final selection of JD (S) candidates for the five, out of the eight constituencies, will be done only after the discussion with the state Congress leaders. There is also a possibility that in the constituencies of Udupi-Chikkamagaluru, Uttara Kannada and Vijayapura, Congress candidates will be fielded on JD (S) ticket.
It is learnt that JD (S) has contacted former minister Pramod Madhwaraj for the Udupi-Chikkamagaluru constituency. Similarly, it is said that the JD (S) has contacted some leaders in Uttara Kannada and Vijayapura.
