New Delhi, Mar 17: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has added the prefix “Chowkidar” to his name on his Twitter handle, as part of Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) '#MainBhiChowkidar' campaign.
Minutes after, Amit Shah changed his Twitter handle to "Chowkidar Amit Shah", triggering BJP leaders to follow this unique campaign trend.
BJP leaders including Piyush Goyal, Amit Malviya, Tajinder Bagga, Sambit Patra, Harsh Sanghavi, Meenakshi Lekhi, Vikas Pandey and Poonam Mahajan followed the suit, giving a boost to the campaign.
The unique campaign on micro blogging site comes a day after PM Modi took to twitter against corruption. “Your Chowkidar is standing firm and serving the nation. But, I am not alone. Everyone who is fighting corruption, dirt, social evils is a Chowkidar. Everyone working hard for the progress of India is a Chowkidar. Today, every Indian is saying-#MainBhiChowkidar,” he had tweeted on March 16.
With the tweet, the Prime Minister had also shared a short video titled ‘Take The Pledge’, urging people to join him on March 31 at 6 pm for a video programme titled 'Main Bhi Chowkidar’.
The trend has caught on and now members of the public are changing their Twitter names as well.
