Mangaluru, Mar 16: The mega convention of service associations across Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Kasaragod districts was held at Hotel Saptagiri, Kavoor on Saturday, March 16.
Roshan Belman, founder of Humanity Trust, Kanthi Harish, managing trustee of special school, Parappu Karkala of Sawraj Mangaluru, social workers Asif, Vinayaka Rao, Sevadhama , Kannyadi, Vishu Shetty, Ambalapady were present as chief guests. Chandra Shekar Poojari, founder, Vishwa Billavara Chavadi presided over the programme.
Speaking on his experiences in the field of social work Kanthi Harish said, “I hail from a poor family and struggled to get educated upto PUC. After PUC, I started work and continued my study. I always had a soft corner towards special children right from my childhood. When I started to work as a teacher, I gave importance to special children. Then I started to teach them and tried rehabilitating them. No government body helped me at the initial stage. But the spirit of service and to do something good for society led me. Generous people came to my help and I succeeded in constructing a special school for special children.”
“Today, the convention has given me an opportunity to meet and share thoughts with other social workers. Definitely it will boost my spirit in social service which is very much needed in the society,” he added.
Appreciating the organisers, Swaraj Mangaluru said "These types of programmes are helpful to learn more on social service and its necessity. I started social service by seeing injustice which is happening on poor and middle class people. Same time I tried to expose the human cruelty on nature. I am not inspired by anyone. I believe in every social worker a revolutionary is hidden. But majority of us do not allow this revolutionary to come out, but once out, then no one can stop."
In his speech Asif said, “People think without finance we can’t do social work. In their mind social work means purchase some things and distribute to needy. But in my opinion social work means respect to others, help them in their difficult times. I don’t have any business or I am not a member of any trust or known organisation. But when people call me for help or when I understand a person needs my help, I rush there. For me humanity is first. Money, caste, creed and language are secondary. As a human we all are equal and should respect each other.”
In his presidential speech Chandra Shekar Poojari said, “For the first time all service associations are coming under one roof and introducing each other. It is a positive move and it will bring close all those who have special concern towards society. I salute all social organisations and their members who are gathered here. This programme helps form a better network and is inspiring. "
Financial help to social organisations for their various activities were distributed at the event. The organisers felicitated the guests with memento and shawl. Members of 32 social service associations participated in the convention.
Praveen Kumar Kavoor, Ajith Poojari, Pajiru were present. Dinesh Suvarna, Rayi, compered the event.
