Udupi, Mar 15: City police have registered a case against Udupi Youth Congress leaders for staging a protest without permission.

Some of the local Congress members on Thursday March 14 had expressed anger over the party's decision to offer the Udupi-Chikkamagaluru Lok Sabha seat to coalition partner JD(S).

They had burnt tyres in front of the party office. Udupi district Youth Congress presdent Vishwas Amin, district Congress vice-president Prakhyat Shetty, Yatish Karkera, Imran and others had been part of the protest.

On Friday, the Udupi police registered a suo motu case against the Congress leaders for staging a flash protest without permission and causing public nuisance by blocking the way outside Congress office and burning tyres.

The district Congress has been up in arms against the party for offering the Udupi-Chikkamagaluru seat to the JD(S). The Udupi Congress has steadfastly maintained that JD(S) does not have enough presence in the constituency and that Congress has a far better chance of winning here. AICC member Amrith Shenoy even threatened to resign if the party does not reconsider the decision.
