Mangalore, Feb 21: Dr Vasant Kumar Perla, who had been appointed by the government as a member of Konkani Sahitya Academy, has resigned from his post.
"I have not made any contribution to the field of Konkani language. I am not even conversant with Konkani. Hence, I am not in a position to serve as a member of Konkani Sahitya Academy. Let capable persons who have worked for the development of Konkani use this opportunity to serve the field," he said in his resignation letter.
Perla endorsed copies of his resignation letter to media offices. It may be noted, that Basti Vaman Shenoy has already resigned from the membership of Konkani Sahitya Academy.
In the meantime, there are rumours that academy appointments might undergo drastic changes soon. Reportedly, BJP state president D V Sadanand Gowda and DK district in-charge minister Krishna Palemar are peeved at the fact that lists of appointees to different academies are crowded with names of staunch supporters of Veerappa Moily. BJP workers too are angry over this development, it is gathered. Gowda and CM are said to be in loggerheads on the issue. Hence, the appointments are likely to be reviewed, it is learnt.
