Udupi, Mar 15: AICC member Amrith Shenoy said he is hurt with the decision of Congress to give up Udupi-Chikkamagaluru constituency seat to its coalition partner JD(S).
Reverting to media on his stand on resigning AICC, Shenoy said, “I never discussed party issues in street before. I never gave resignation to AICC membership. I did not think of it and it was an impossible thought. But this decision of Congress has hurt me,” he said.
“I do not have any idea about seat sharing between Congress and JD(S). Congress leaders do not have the information and what its calculation was. The Udupi DCC president and Chikkamagaluru DCC president conducted a meeting and a final resolution was submitted to Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee. Let us wait for its reply,” he said.
“We are not willing to give up the Udupi-Chikkamagaluru Lok Sabha seats to JD(S). There is less presence or existence of JD(S) in comparison to Congress in the constituency. JD(S) party supporters are less in number. An appeal has been sent to the high command that seats should be retained by Congress,” he stressed.
“I am an active and dedicated party worker. As I am an AICC member, I was disappointed. There is opinion in public that it was wrong decision taken by High Command. Yesterday, youth Congress leaders have expressed their anger by burning tyres. Koppa Block Congress president also conducted a meeting regarding this,” he added.
Looking at today’s political scenario, all secular parties are uniting to defeat BJP. “I do not know on what base, criteria the seats have been distributed to JD(S),” he said.
“My name was given to AICC in-charge by party workers. So it reached high command. Still they have time and we will make an understanding with the high command. I will abide by their decision. This decision was opposed unanimously by various wings of Congress. Everywhere there was a strong opposition,” Shenoy added.
Yogish Shetty, JD(S) district president speaking to media persons said, “Yes, we believe that there less number of activists in JD(S) in Udupi Chikkamagaluru. But we will coordinate with Congress members to fight against BJP. We will work together.”
