Bantwal: Police hold meeting for public opinion on traffic issues

Bantwal, Mar 15: District police department held a meeting in B C Road taluk panchayat auditorium on Thursday evening, March 14 to know the opinion of people after sudden ban on private and government buses on service road on B C Road.

Sadashiva Bangera, former president of Buda said that the ban has created problems for people, especially women and children as they have to walk the distance. “There is no footpath and shopkeepers have illegally occupied the sides of road.”

Auto drivers union vice-president Samshuddin said that the bus traffic should be allowed as it will pose no problems. “Rural autos should not be allowed to park on B C Road. Permit parking should be allowed for auto drivers,” he urged.

Lokesh Suvarna, a local said that drivers do not listen to home guards assigned instead of the police. Social activist Prabhakar said that parking of buses between 20 to 30 minutes on service road creates traffic problem. Auto driver Yakub said that pedestrians are unable to move and are made to stand in scorching sun as all the buses are parked on the bridge.

There were suggestions to impose fines and confiscate buses violating traffic rules, leveling the land of old taluk office for bus bay or private bus stand, demands for barricades on service road, reflect cones, assigning traffic police, identifying place for parking, vacating illegal sheds in front of shops and leveling the base portion of bridge and construct footpath.
