Udupi, Feb 19: A woman from a village who was on her family way was travelling from Brahmavar to Udupi on Wednesday February 18. She boarded a bus being run by Durgamba Travels along with another woman, at Brahmavar, at around 8.45 am perhaps, for medical examination.
As the bus neared the city, she felt nauseated and vomited on the floor of the bus, unable to control the sudden surge. She cleaned the floor herself. Reportedly, the conductor of the bus asked her to properly clean the space, which she did.
As she alighted from the bus at Udupi bus stand, the bus agent forced her, in front of many other passengers, to get into the bus again and clean the surface to ensure that it is devoid of any marks. As she hailed from rural background, the woman did what she was asked to without even a semblance of protest, even though she was in the family way.
The lady got into the same bus on Thursday February 19 morning at Brahmavar at the same time. As the bus reached Santhekatte, several people thought to be close to the woman, who were angered by the behaviour of the bus staff, intercepted it, barged into the bus and took the bus employees to task for not showing even the minimum courtesy to a pregnant woman. As the people applied pressure, the bus staff apologized for their behaviour. Police personnel from town police station visited the spot to ease the situation.
It is learnt that the woman has been admitted into the maternity ward of a local hospital on Thursday.
