Kasargod, Mar 13: Congress national president Rahul Gandhi is scheduled to visit Kasargod on Thursday March 14.
He will arrive at the new Kannur International Airport at 11.30 am and proceed to the Central University at Periya by helicopter. From there, he will travel by car to Periya Kalyot and pay a visit to the families of Congress activists Kripesh and Sharathlal who were murdered on February 17 to express his sympathies.
The police have deployed tight security arrangements ahead of the Congress president's visit. An SPG squad visited Periya Kalyot and ensured that proper arrangements were in place. The SPG squad will specially keep a close watch on the route Rahul Gandhi is scheduled to take, and also on the vicinities of Kripesh and Sharathlal's houses.
Thereafter, Rahul will proceed to Kannur, where he will visit the family of Shoiab, the Youth Congress worker who was murdered last year.
As part of security arrangements, vehicular movement on the highway along Mangaluru-Kasargod-Kanhangad route, and also other roads, have been diverted. Students answering their exams have been advised to reach their exam centres early to avoid traffic jam.
Rahul Gandhi is currently in Kerala as part of his two-day tour of the state ahead of the general elections.
