Mangaluru Mar 13: The Brahmakalashotsava of Polali Sri Rajarajeshwari Temple ended on a grand note by Brahmakalashabhisheka (Consecrating ceremony) on Wednesday, March 13, Mahapooja, Palla Pooja, Bramhana Suhasini Aaradhana and other religious rituals.
The Brahmakalashotsava of Sri Rajarajeshwari Temple Polali, started on March 4 under various religious rituals under the leadership of Polali Subramanya Tantri and the guidance of Bramashri Vedamurthi Kodimajalu Ananthapadmanabha Upadyaya.
As many as 501 Kalasabhisheka for Rajarajeshwari, 501 Kalasha for Durgaparameshwari and 108 Kalasabhisheka for other associated idols were held during the consecrating ceremony.
During the 10-day celebration, close to 8 to 10 lac devotees visited the temple. The organising committees have strived hard for the smooth functioning of the Brahmakalashotsava. Close to 14,000 volunteers took part in the event and worked under different sections such as parking facilities, cooking, cleanliness and many other sections.
Security tightened
District police had deployed over 200 police personnel at the holy place to avoid incidents and allow smooth flow of vehicular movement.
Political and religious leaders took part
Several religious leaders and political leaders took part in the event such as State BJP president Yeddyurappa, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, Former minister Siddaramaiah , Sri Vidyaprasannna Theertha swamiji from Subramanya, Sri Mohandas Paramahamsa Swamiji from Manila, Odiyoor Gurudevananda Swamiji, Vishwesha Theertha swamiji from Pejawar and Union minister Sadananda Gowda.
Offertory processions
The grand offertory procession was carried out from various places from the district in the one week of Polali Brahmakalashotsava, taking loads of vegetables, vessels, rice and many more.
Decorated Polali temple
The festive spirit could be felt at Polali temple which was beautifully decorated at the entrance and also the entrance arcs located at Farangipete and Kaikamba. The entire stretch at Polali temple is decorated with sarees, pulses, vegetables, lights and other decorative items.
Polali Rajarajeshwari Temple is one of the most renowned temples in Dakshina Kannada district which has rich history of over 1500 years which was started by Suratha Maharaja. The idol of Shri Rajarajeshwari is completely molded from clay with special medicinal properties. The temple portrays Hindu architecture with roofs adorned with wooden carvings of gods and copper plates.
The idol of Rajarajeshwari at the temple is the longest with a height of 9.5 feet. The primary deity of the temple is Shri Rajarajeshwari. Deities such as Sri Durga Parameshwari, Sri Mahaganapathi, Sri Subramanya, Sri Bhadrakali and other associated deities are worshipped at Polali Rajarajeshwari temple.
Brahamakalashotsava is conducted every 12 years, but this time it is conducted after 15 years due to temple renovation that took almost two years. The temple has been completely renovated and developed at the cost of Rs 18 crore.
The installation of Kodi mara (flag pole) was installed by conducting rituals. The Kodi mara (flag pole) was brought from Sullia.
Sri Durgaparameshwari stage and Sri Rajarajeshwari stage, two stages have been set up for the cultural events. Cultural events such as Bhajans, instrumental music, folk events, music, dance, Yakshagana, Taalamaddala, Harikathe was held under the aegis of chairman of Alva’s Education Trust Dr Mohan Alva which entertained the devotees throughout the week.
