Bengaluru, Mar 13: Former prime minister H D Deve Gowda said that he would withdraw from contesting the election if Congress does not give up Mysuru for JD(S). He said that he will contest from there as the candidate of coalition. He has sent a message to Congress high command that he will not contest if Congress does not give up Mysuru Lok Sabha constituency.
Deve Gowda’s calculations are that Congress leader Siddaramaiah will not come forward to defeat JD(S) if Deve Gowda contests from Mysuru. If JD(S) is defeated in the district of Siddaramaiah, Siddaramaiah will have to bear moral responsibility. If coalition candidate is defeated in spite of his presence, it will not be unnatural for Deve Gowda to come forward to change the picture of Karnataka politics saying to Congress leaders that they are on their way out.
AICC president Rahul Gandhi will decide on giving up Mysuru to JD(S) after a meeting in Delhi on March 15 or 16.
