Thiruvananthapuram, Mar 12: In a horrible crime that occurred at Thiruvall near here, a man set ablaze an 18-year-old student studying radiology, who rejected his one-way love.

The perpetrator of the act was caught by the people present on the spot and handed over to the police. The dejected man poured petrol on the victim and set fire on a street.

The 18-year-old victim of this tragedy is a native of Ayiroor in the district of Pattanamthitta. She is admitted into a hospital. As per the preliminary reports given by the doctors attending to her, she has received 75 percent burns.

Ajin Reji Mathew is the man who set the victim on fire. A spot witness who saw the ghastly act of Ajin overpowered and caught him while he was trying to flee after the crime.

It is gathered that the accused Ajin said that he was forced to commit this crime after the girl rejected his proposal. But the police are not convinced as he had petrol in his possession, which suggests that, this was a well thought act and not a decision that was done in the spur of the moment.
