Gadag, Mar 11: This doctor is popular as the ‘Rs 10 doctor’ in the village. Rs 10 is the amount that Dr Kallesh Murashilin takes from his patients as consultation fee. The reason for this is his selfless service. Sometimes, he does not take even that amount also.
Being in service from the past 22 years, Dr Kallesh has never worked for money, but to serve poor people. Kallesh, who has done his graduation in Ayurvedic medicine, had the intention of serving the downtrodden in the society during his studies itself. He himself was born in a poor family and used to sell milk and worked in temporary positions and graduated in Ayurveda.
Dr Kallesh says, “I faced lots of hardship during my school and college days. We had a small farm. I completed my medical education by selling milk of cows which we reared at our home. I had seen many people suffering from diseases without having money those days and hence decided to serve the poor.”
Dr Kallesh cycles to his clinic everyday from home. Only in need he uses bike or car. He opens the clinic at 8.30 am. There will be a beeline of patients by that time itself. If required, he visits the patients at their home also. He visits the houses of elderly people and disabled people, but does not take any fee from them.
The locals say, “Dr Kallesh is a model person. Even if the patient forces him to take money, he will refuse. Even people from nearby villages come to his clinic. There is also a belief that the medicine given by Dr Kallesh cures the disease faster than the medicine given by other doctors.”
Dr Kallesh has the support of his family for his social service. His wife is also a doctor. Dr Deepa serves in the city of Gadag. Dr Kallesh used to take Rs 5 as fee before his marriage. After his wedding, he has increased his consultation fee to Rs 10.
