Mangaluru, Mar 10: On the occasion of International Women’s Day, Canara Organisation for Development and Peace (CODP) Nanthoor in collaboration with NSS Unit Padua College, Kalpavruksha and Kamadhenu, organised a cleanliness drive here at Kadri on Sunday, March 10.
Addressing the gathering, Mangaluru diocese vicar general Fr Maxim Noronha said, "I congratulate the organisers for the cleanliness drive. It is our duty to keep our surroundings clean and tidy; such drives will be an inspiration for all.”
Director of CODP Fr Oswald Monterio said, "CODP is conducting development and training programmes for women empowerment. We are conducting cleanliness drives for the last 35 years and are focusing on reusing plastic. Our volunteers have reused the plastic bottles and made a bench at schools in Mangaluru. We can reduce, recycle and reuse the waste.”
This year CODP is celebrating Women's Day at 35 areas through cleanliness drives.
Cleanliness drives was conducted near Kadri war memorial, Kadri Park - Nanthoor stretch, KPT - Sharbathkatte - Yeyyadi stretch.
Retired principal Fr Francis Goveas, Padua College principal Fr Alwyn Serrao, Kamadhenu president Sandhya, Kalpavruksha president Shailaja were present.
CODP programme manager Lenet Gonsalves compered the programme. CODP animator Kala Girish proposed vote of thanks.
The organisers and volunteers also paid homage to the martyrs at Kadri war memorial.
