Bengaluru, Mar 10: Banashankari police have arrested a lady of Mangaluru origin, on the accusation impersonating as IGP D Roopa and calling a police officer and asking to reserve a room in a private hotel in Lucknow of Uttar Pradesh.
Asha Prakash (42), lady of Mangaluru origin, is the one who called a police officer in Lucknow and introduced herself as IGP of Karnataka Home Guards and asked him to book a room in a five-star hotel from December 29, 2018 to January 3, 2019, as she is coming on some work. The police officer of Lucknow, who took the word of the lady in good faith, believing that the lady who had called must be IGP herself, booked a room in the hotel.
Later, a police officer of Lucknow, who knows IGP Roopa personally, called the Roopa to inform here about her room booking. However, a surprised IGP D Roopa told him that she has not called any officer in Lucknow and also did not ask to book a room. IGP D Roopa filed complaint in this regard in the Banashankari police station of the city.
Police, who registered a case, arrested the accused Asha Prakash, based on the mobile number of the lady from which the call was made. However, the arrested lady is saying that she has neither called anyone nor asked to reserve any room. The police are investigating further.
