Mangaluru, Mar 9: Union home minister Rajnath Singh who was in Mangaluru, said politics should be used for nation building and not with an aim of acquiring power.
Addressing an intellectual meet at TMA Pai Hall on March 9, he spoke on the allegations BJP faces on creating differences between Hindus and Muslims. “Our policy is justice for all appeasement for none. We want a strong government and not an unstable one,” he stressed.
“India is the fastest growing economy. We were 9th position in 2014, but now we have reached to 6th position. In coming days we will be one among top three economic power nations and this will be our greatest achievement,” he said.
“We have met the aspirations of a common man and concrete steps are taken for it. The Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan scheme has reached to every common man. We are giving an accidental insurance upto Rs 2 lac,” he said.
The minister spoke on how the government introduced direct beneficiary transfer system, eliminating the scope for middle man. “Earlier, Rajiv Gandhi had said if he gives Rs 100 only Rs 60 rupees could reach beneficiaries. However, we through direct transfer have saved upto one lakh ten thousand crore,” he highlighted.
“Close to 7 crore families were benefited in Ujjwala Yojana. The farmer is in a poor condition. In order to double the income we are giving Rs 6000 in three installments. With this the farmer receives Rs 2000 each in every installment for every four months.
Swachhata mission was a success because earlier there were 39% of families with toilets and now there are 98.8% of families with toilet facilities. More than 18,000 village was electrified under power for village and power for all mission. Earlier, there were only 3-4 mobile manufacturing units because there was no conducive atmosphere for investors. But today the manufacturing units have reached up to 120 because there is lot of scope for investors,” he said.
The minister highlighted the decrease in naxal affected areas. “Earlier there were 126 naxal affected areas but today there is 85% improvement and only 8 naxal affected areas,” he said.
We have gained diplomatic success when our foreign minister was invited for IOC meet despite opposition from Pakistan, he added.
BJP president B S Yeddyurappa spoke on promises fulfilled by Modi in last five years. “Prior to the elections we had assured four points that is corruption free country, development across the country, border security and our country to be respected globally. India is changing because of the decisions taken by Modi. It may be retaliation that took strides in development,” said Yeddyurappa.
