Mangalore, Feb 14: In tune with the permission granted by the court, the policemen arranged for the identity parade of the arrested accused in the case relating to the abduction and assault on Manjeshwar MLA Kunhambu's daughter Shruti and her friend Shabeeb, on Thursday February 12 in the local sub-jail.
At the same time, the police have arrested a youth named Sharanraj from Nagori in the city in connection with the case, who was remanded to 14 days judicial custody after being produced in the court. He is the son of Prabha Malini, former city corporator.
Shruti, Shabeeb and a bus passenger Sridhar took part in the identity parade. Mangalore Tahsildar Raju Mogaveera oversaw the identity parade. Reportedly, Shruti could identifiy only some of those presented before her. Tahsildar Raju Mogaveera informed that a report on the results will soon be submitted in the court. During the parade, which was held in the evening, Kunhambu and his followers, workers of CPI(M) and DYFI had gathered outside the jail.
Speaking to reporters, Kunhambu said, that he will not be satisfied until and unless local youths who were involved with the case are caught and punished. While claiming that people connected with the case and also Karnataka chief minister B S Yeddyurappa have been doling out lies in the case, he said that none of the arrested persons are CITU or DYFI activists.
In the meanwhile, BJP district spokesman Ullal Ratnakar Nayak accused union minister Renuka Chowdhury of insulting women for getting propaganda for herself. He asked the Prime Minister to intervene in the issue and stop the damage being done by the media and the minister to the reputation of the city.
