Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru

Mangaluru, Mar 7: Police arrested a person after 39 years of committing attempt to murder crime.

Avil D’Souza (56), from Padpu Adam Kudru near Jappinamogaru in city, is the arrested person.

Avil D’Souza had assaulted a person named Ganesh Shetty in 1980. An attempt to murder case was registered at Mangaluru Rural police station against him. The accused was absconding since then without appearing in court.

Anti Rowdy Squad personnel from city, under the supervision of Mangaluru South sub-division ACP, arrested Avil D’Souza on Thursday, March 7.

It is gathered that Avil D’Souza was working in a foreign country for all these years and settled down in Kumpala in city. Police, who gathered information about this, managed to apprehend him after 39 years.

The operation was conducted with the guidance of police commissioner Sandeep Patil and DCPs Hanumantharaya and Uma Prashanth.

Funny to see people trying to defend him.
Is it because he belongs to a particular religion?

I think police people have some targets like sales argets.. hey have to catch atleast one in a month.. i think they were not bale to find any genuine case so when they saw this poor fellow they caught hold of him and made a big scene...
what a stupid act.... there are so many live cases which are pending and these police are not bothered about that..
attempt to murder or just a fight in those days when he was just 17 and the opposite party might have complained as attempt to murder.... why was the case still open i dont understand when there are so many serious cases which are closed withing span of time...
But on thing is true when a persons bad time starts anything can happen

No doubt murder attempt is serious crime, but as per the report, crime happened at the age of 17 years!! His living style after that matters!
But is there any sense arresting a person after 39 years of crime? Justice delayed is justice denied.
In some matters we are in rocket age and in some are in stone age!
Police were able to preserve record, nobody tried to destroy !

So, what he 17 years of age when he committed the crime?

He possibly will be excused on account of being a minor at the time.

A job more difficult than catching him might be to dig up the old police records.

Why there is no case against police for their incompetency to arrest the culprit as he was arrested after 39 years. Over these years, is he not trying to be a responsible citizen, earning his bread in foreign countries and when he has settled gracefully, in his motherland, police are arresting him.
