Udupi, Mar 7: Geetha Shetty (47), who had suffered serious injuries after an auto rickshaw hit here on Tuesday morning on national highway at Kadiyarli, succumbed to her injuries the same night.
Geetha had visited Kadiyali Mahisha Mardini temple in the company of a relative named Prasanna Shetty at 6.15 am on Tuesday. She was waiting to cross the road to visit Sri Krishna Math when an auto rickshaw which came from the direction of Manipal knocked her down. Geetha suffered serious injuries in the accident. She breathed her last in a private hospital at Manipal the same night.
Geetha was a hard working progressive farmer and was active with social service organizations. She is survived by husband, a son, and a daughter.
A complaint relating to the accident has been filed in the police station, holding the auto rickshaw driver responsible for the accident on account of recklessness and over-speeding. The locals feel that partially completed highway widening work at Kadiyali has contributed to the gravity of the accident as the road does not still have signboards, zebra crossing, divider etc.
