Mangaluru, Mar 7: Naufal (23), resident of Manjeshwar who had jumped into Netravati River from the bridge on Wednesday afternoon to commit suicide after disappointment in love, changed his mind later while in water and reached back to riverside.
Naufal had driven his tempo towards Mangaluru accompanied by his friend in the afternoon at about 2 pm. He had stopped the auto in between the bridge saying that he felt like vomiting and jumped into the river. People who jumped into the river to rescue Naufal saw him sitting on the slab of the bridge pillar. A large number of curious people later gathered to see him.
City south traffic inspector Gurudath Kamath, who was at the spot, brought Naufal up with help from local people. He was handed over to Kankanady police station after that.
When asked by Kankanady police inspector Ashok and staff, Naufal said that he was in love with a girl and decided to end his life by jumping into the river when he failed in it.
Police said that Naufal did not sustain any injuries. “His family people were called and he was sent back with them,” they said.
