Udupi, Mar 6: Udupi district-in-charge minister Dr Jayamala revealed that Vinay Kumar Sorake, Pramod Madhwaraj, Arathi Krishna and Vijaykumar are the top four aspirants for the Congress ticket for the Udupi- Chikkamagaluru constituency in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.
Addressing the media persons after the KDP meeting at Zilla Panchayat meeting hall, here on Wednesday, March 6, the minister said that the four names have been shortlisted and the final revelation will be done by the Congress high command.
Answering to a query regarding benefits and loss for Congress in the upcoming election, she said, “The mistakes of BJP will profit us. But I do not want us to get benefit from conflict. Moreover, whatever development works we have done will bear us fruit."
When questioned that in case she is given a chance to contest in the Lok Sabha polls she said, “I always abide by the party high command. Party is like a mother to me. This question will not arise, as I am not an aspirant to MP seat. I could not insist or force anybody in this matter.”
Besides this, briefing the KDP meeting Jayamala said, “I have given instructions to complete all pending construction works on priority. This should be done at the earliest, before announcing the election code of conduct.”
“We have decided to have a book park in Koti-Chennaya theme at Karkala. It will be built in additional 15 acres. There is 110 acres of land, which belonging to horticulture department. There is plan on installing sounds and lights to attract tourists. A proposal has been sent to the government, asking for additional funds. A full package will be provided to tourists by installing food court, parking facilities and amusement equipment,” she said.
Public do not have proper information of sand stock yards. I have instructed the district administration to give concerned contact number to get information. A eligible person should get sand. Over 8 sand blocks under CRZ have been approved.
“Under non-CRZ, tender calling process is on progress for 30 blocks. Out of them 7 are already using for the government projects and 23 blocks will be open for public soon. Once the district authority issues work order, the sand extraction will start. The sand bunds should be removed (clear) before monsoon," she insisted to department.
She also directed to complete Grama Vikas Yojana in four villages and she decided to call a task force committee for managing drinking water supply.
The works of 19 vented dams were complete and construction work of eight vented dams is in progress. Rs 8.7 crores of compensation amount was distributed to 6,253 farmers, she said.
“Everyone has hopes on the re-opening of sugar factory in Brahmavar. If it comes up, hundreds of people will get jobs and it will give life to farmers. It will take at least two years to start its function. An official meeting will be called in Bengaluru soon, to discuss about progress of proposal,” she said.
“Regarding Endosulfan affected, 15 fresh cases have been added. A scientific survey should be conducted to understand the seriousness of its damage. A scientific survey should be conducted in Endosulfan sprinkled areas. I will call a joint meeting soon for four districts like Managaluru, Kasargod, Udupi and Uttara Kannada. I will get all fresh information regarding Endosulfan affected shortly,” said minister Dr Jayamala
District SP Nisha James spoke on the follow-up operations of the missing fishermen. “We have formed 5-6 teams for search operations. We send our police, wherever we get any information. We have used Ariel, sonar scan technology and also satellite imagery from the ISRO. The coast guards have conducted search operations which have still continued.”
Hebsiba Rani, deputy commissioner, Sindhu Roopesh, CEO, Udupi zilla panchayat among others were present.
