Kundapur: Thieves loot ornaments worth lacs from jewellery store

Kundapur, Mar 6: Thieves broke into Sri Maruthi Jewellers store in Goliangadi on March 6 and decamped with silver ornaments worth lacs of rupees.

Gopal Acharya, the proprietor of the store has been dealing with gold and silver jewellery since many years. He had installed safe lockers, CCTV cameras and shutters to protect his store.

However, thieves broke into his shop on wee hours of Monday and stole silver ornaments worth Rs 3 lac, computer, hard disk, CCTV camera, DVR, scale and items worth Rs 75,000.

The gold was kept in a safe locker. Though they tried using a gas cutter to break the locker, the thieves failed.

Udupi district additional police commissioner Kumar Chandra, Kundapur DYSP B P Dinesh Kumar, Shankarnarayan Police Station sub-inspector K Prakash, Byndoor Police Station sub-inspector Parameshwar R Gunada, Kandalur Station sub-inspector Sridhar are investigating the case. A dog squad was brought to the crime scene to aid investigation.
