Mangalore, Feb 12: The traffic on National Highway 48 was blocked from about 7.30 am after a tanker turned turtle after hitting a truck on Thursday February 12 near Kannur check-post point in the outskirts of the city. The LPG tanker was on its way to Bangalore.
The police and firefighters are camped on the spot to clear the road for vehicular movement. A crane too has been summoned to the place.
Meanwhile, the police said that it may take few more hours to clear road and throw it open for vehicular movement. There have not been any reports of casualties so far, police confirmed.
Vehicles plying to Puttur, Uppinangady, Beltangady are plying via Konaje-Melkar route.
Police blocked vehicles bound for Mangalore at Melkar. Many vehicles were queued up for few kms alongside the national highway.
The traffic halt left commuters high and dry. This was clearly visible in colleges, schools and other places where presence of students and staff was very less.
