Puttur, Mar 6: In connection with the murder of Yashwant K (19) after two relatives who had come to Uppinangady fought with each other, Anand (30),who has been accused of killing Yashwant with a lethal weapon and escaping, stands arrested. Anand was arrested by Uppinangady police on Tuesday March 5.
Yashwant K, son of Monappa Nalike from Kallapu House in Karaya village, had come to Uppinangady to witness Vijaya-Vikrama Jodukare Kambala there on Sunday. After Yashwanth was killed with a sharp weapon, the Uppinangady police had begun hunt for the accused. Anand, son of Rukmaya Nalike from Kodambettu in Bantwal taluk was taken into custody when he was travelling by a two-wheeler at Kalleri in Karaya village. A small sabre used for the murder and a motor bike were seized from Anand's possession.
Anand is married. He was incensed at the fact that Anand had fallen in love with a girl related to his wife. Whenever he was drunk, Yashwant, it is said, used to boast that he was behind the death of Anand's child two months back, Anand said. Anand, who was waiting for an opportunity to teach Yashwant a fitting lesson, attacked the latter with a small sabre used for Bhootaradhane and killed Yashwant. The police gathered this information during their interrogation.
Uppinangady police sub-inspector, Nandakumar, and other staff participated in the operation which was conducted under the directions of rural police circle inspector, Manjunath D.
