Udupi, Feb 12: The president of the Udupi district unit of the Janata Dal (Secular), Deviprasad Shetty, said here on Tuesday that the panic in the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was best illustrated by the move to ask its State unit president D.V. Sadananda Gowda to contest the Lok Sabha elections from the Udupi-Chikmagalur constituency instead of his native constituency of Dakshina Kannada.
Addressing presspersons, Mr. Shetty said the BJP had failed to meet the people’s aspirations so far. It had been claiming credit for schemes launched by the H.D. Kumaraswamy Government. “If the BJP were to be confident, there was no need to ask Mr. Sadananda Gowda to contest from another constituency,” he said.
There was a wide gap between the words and deeds of the BJP, he said and added that although Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa had taken the oath of office in the name of farmers, his government’s apathy towards them had resulted in the fertilizer shortage and the killing of two farmers by the police. The law and order situation in the State was pathetic.
“Goons of the Sri Rama Sene are running a parallel administration in Dakshina Kannada. There is anarchy on the streets of Mangalore,” he said.
