Mangaluru, Mar 5: In a major crackdown on motorists using shrill horns, the Mangaluru City Traffic Police on Tuesday, March 5 booked 112 cases and penalized the violators a total of Rs 11,200.
The cops used handheld devices to measure the decibel levels of the horns and the motorists violating the traffic norms were made to remove the horns and cases were booked.
This crackdown was need of the hour with several people complaining on noise pollution, especially from buses that used shrill horns and incessantly honked, annoying other motorists and pedestrians.
The police also booked 35 cases against motorists whose brake lights were not functioning. A total penalty of Rs 3,500 was charged for this violation.
