Kundapur, Mar 4: In an incident which happened at Hunsemakki in the taluk in the early hours on Monday February 4, a leopard attacked a woman who had visited the milk society to deliver milk. In this attack, the woman suffered serious injuries. The injured lady has been identified as Prema (32), from Hunsekatte.
As per her routine, Prema had left her home early in the morning on Monday to deliver milk to local milk producers cooperative society. On this occasion, she came under leopard attack, it is said. Prema suffered serious injuries to her face and neck. The locals immediately admitted her into the government hospital here. After preliminary treatment, she was taken to Udupi.
Leopards have recently been sighted in Alur, Ajri, Hallihole, Hunsemakki, Shankarnarayana and other villages. A week back, a leopard had pounced upon and injured a woman at Ajri. Although several complaints have been made to the officials of the forest department about the dangers posed by wild animals to the people, the department seems to have done precious little to tackle the problem. The locals have urged the concerned to understand the seriousness of the problem and act at least now.
