Kundapur, Mar 4: “We have the responsibility to carefully preserve the cultural aspects of Kannada language and make the language grow. All of us should show our dedication to the language while inculcating our spiritual values in our lives, getting used to the modern way of living, providing justice to the downtrodden, lighting the lamp of love in our lives and preserve the peace and prestige of our country,” said veteran author Parvathi G Aithal.
She was speaking after presiding over the 17th Kundapur taluk Kannada literary conference ‘Hosahadu-2019’ held under the aegis of Kundapur taluk unit of Udupi district Kannada Sahitya Parishad.
“Most of the new Kannada authors have not read the works of the veteran authors. They should read good works and understand the way to write effectively. They should observe the surroundings closely and write examining the values. Writing is like meditating. It requires a lot of hard work.”
“Female authors should throw light on the problems faced by women. Instead of saying that men and women are equal, we should think that we are unique. Our young generation should take up further studies about ways of living life with genuine coordinated concern between man and woman.”
“Modern young folk forgets Kannada. The love of English has become detrimental for Kannada. It is being heard that English medium schools prevent love of Kannada. But it is a matter of satisfaction that Kannada still breathes in Kundapur village area. Everybody should be proud of the Kundapur Kannada with its rich Janapada style.”
“Religion which should develop relationships of love creates ditches among them. Fanatics who cannot understand the basic meaning of religion are killing people in the name of religion. We have to introspect where we fall. Even if we belong to different political parties or religions, we should know the way to develop human love. The present generation of authors should create such literature,” she said.
Kateel Sri Durgaparameshwari college lecturer Professor M Balakrishna Shetty who inaugurated the conference said that campaign for the unity of Karnataka state was similar to the freedom struggle. “But there is no official flag for the state. Languages die when we do not speak them and due to scientific inventions. How can the language remain if inventions swallow Kannada glossary. We should speak in Kannada as far as possible. There should be efforts among children to improve the language and teach values,” he said.
Former conference president B Appanna Hegde inaugurated cultural programme. Udupi district Kannada Sahitya Parishad honorary secretary Subrahmanya Shetty spoke of his aspirations. Hosanadu gram panchayat president Chandrashekar Poojary, vice president Vandana Kharvi, SDMC president Hemavathi Shetty, retired teacher Sadashiva Shetty, Udupi district Kannada Sahitya Parishad honorary secretary Dr Subrahmanya Bhat, Prabhaker Shetty, school headmaster Jayarama Patagar, old students association president Pradeep Acharya and others were present. Hosadu gram panchayat president Chandrashekar Poojary hoisted national flag. Kundapur Kannada Sahitya Parishad president Dr Kishore Kumar Shetty hoisted parishad flag. Conference president Dr Parvathi G Aithal was brought in procession to the conference stage from Arate Vasuki Subrahmanya temple.
