Mangaluru, March 3: On the occasion of International Women’s day, Catholic Sabha Mangalore Pradesh (R) organised women’s day celebration on Sunday, March 3 at the Bishop’s House, Kodialbail, Mangaluru.
Mangaluru bishop Rev Dr Peter Paul Saldanha inaugurated the function and invoked god’s blessings for the success of the programme. He advised women to make use of all the opportunities in the society and educate their children on national interest and motivate them to join defence and government section.
A tribute was paid to the brave soldiers who sacrificed their lives for the country. The bishop offered prayers on behalf of all those present. Victor Rosario Corea (Rtd. Soldier from the Armed Forces) expressed sympathies and prayers for the martyrs.
Catholic Sabha president Rolphy D’Costa said that the celebration was held as a token of appreciation to women who put in hard work and sincere efforts.
Amleen D’Souza and Agnes Saldanha were called upon the stage by Catholic Sabha treasurer Vivid D’Souza. The bishop honoured both the women for their achievements.
Philomena Lobo (Rtd. Director of Public Institution, Secondary Education Dept, Government of Karnataka) was introduced to the audience by Catholic Sabha general secretary Celestine D’Souza. Lobo spoke on the challenges she faced in life and how education can change one’s life. She also asked women to make use of various schemes offered by the government for women.
Amleen D’Souza praised Catholic Sabha. “My participation in the elocution competitions gave me the courage and strength to face my future,” she said and requested all the ladies to work together to build a healthy and peaceful society.
Catholic Sabha former president Flavy D’Souza introduced Dr Prabha Adhikari, professor at Yenopoya Medical College who spoke on “Women Health Issues”. The audience asked lot of questions to the doctor during interaction and all were answered.
Members from various units presented their skills with songs, dance and entertainment. Spot games were conducted, gifts distributed to the winners.
Thanksgiving mass was offered by Rev Fr Aquin Noronha. He called upon all women to give good values and hence give society good families. David D’Souza, vice president thanked Fr Aquin Noronha.
Catholic Sabha convener Ida Furtado welcomed the guests. Dr Theresa Pereira was the MC.
Catholic Sabha co-convenor Noreen Pinto and women representatives from 11 wards were present on the dias.
